World’s Top 50: Pujol, Mexico

25 Nov

Restaurante Pujol in Mexico City placed 36th on the San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants of 2012. My lucky boyfriend got to eat there! (yes, I’m a bit jealous). Here are a few samplings from the beautifully plated tasting menu.

Barbacoa taco with avocado puree

Yucatan bald pig with bean salsa

Plum sorbet with anise liquor, set on fire!

Banana, macadamia zest, camomile flower, cacao, and cream.

Forget the bread, bring me some bacon!

Candied bacon, bacon chocolate, bacon pecan pie… bacon in everything! Is bacon still the “it” food? Maybe.  Harry’s Prime Steakhouse and Raw Bar in Mexico City serves crispy bacon strips in a glass in place of a bread basket. There is also a wide selection of appetizers, ranging from shrimp cocktail to sashimi, to mini tacos.
